You’ve read it right, yes, the ’80s are back! And not only they are back but they are back in full force, bringing along their infamous oversized glasses, high waist washed out mom jeans and padded shoulders. Whether you like it or not, you have to admit that there is a certain feeling of comfort when thinking about this decade. After all, it is the time when your mom and dad where young and had fun. Don’t you almost feel like you could go back in time and live a day in their 20s? Like you could touch a piece of this immense clock that’s been keeping track of our lives. Well, now is the right time to borrow your mom’s clothes and call them ‘vintage’.

Let’s make a list of what is coming back in style:

Off the shoulders

Off the shoulders dresses and blouses were one of the center pieces in the Spring/Summer Ready to Wear collections, but we should not forget the fact that this is a well known trend from the ’80s, when women seductively walked by in their little off the shoulder tops, covering themselves up with a stylish oversized denim jacket.

Padded shoulders

I never ever in my life would have pictured myself wearing padded shoulders. I used to try on this big, fuchsia gorgeous,  long, vintage coat that my mom wore in the late ’80s and I could not wrap my head around the idea of padded shoulders. The feminine silhouette back then was all about power and this was something you could achieve through pads on the shoulders. They are back in style right now, but I have to admit that I do not feel like they are for me.

Graphic and slogan tees

This is not necessarily something so out of our millennial world, as I am sure you’ve been wearing this kind of t-shirts since kindergarten, but this trend was huge back then. You were the cool kid on the block if you had several big, original graphic t-shirts.

Oversized glasses

Let’s face it, the oversized glasses were here to stay since way back when, but they had their full power in the ’80s when both the glasses and the sunglasses were extravagant in the sense of their dimension.

Oversized denim jacket

Oversized denim jacket, high waist mom jeans and white sneakers  were the thing in the 1980s. So if you want to achieve this look, make sure you select an oversized, rather light colored denim jacket and then pin on some cool badges for an extra fresh vibe.

Tights

From green to neon yellow, from red to solid white, tights were a way of expressing your happy self. After all, the 1980s are notoriously known for the vibrant parties, never-ending dances and sexy legs.

Mini skirts

No matter what the year may be, sexy legs are a must, and the ’80s were no exception, hence the mini skirts and mini dresses were a really big trend in the era of Madonna, Brook Shields and Kylie Minogue. You can wear a printed t-shirt with a mini denim skirt and a pair of crisp white sneakers or a mini dress with colorful tights and military boots.

Oversized blazers

I think you have already picked up a pattern by now…yes, I am talking about the oversized everything. From glasses, to coats, to denim jackets, the oversized blazers were that one thing you had to own in your wardrobe, as an employed fashionista. After all, as the majority of your time is spent at work, you would want to be fashionable. The oversized blazers evoked power, strength and a bit of controlled masculinity. Mostly paired with pencil skirts, now you can also wear it in a more casual way, by adding Vans and jeans. For a more detailed post on how to wear your oversized blazer, click here!

Sequins

Let me ask you a quick question: What is the first thing that comes to your mind when thinking about the ‘80s? For me, it has to be the disco balls, the neon colorful clothes and the over flooded with people dance floors. In all this equation, the center pieces were the sequins. Nothing spoke more about the fun and joy of the sparkling 1980s than sequins and looking at this Spring/Summer Ready to Wear collections, they maintain a secure position in those trends that are coming back.

Bodysuits

From workout videos to music clips, the bodysuits and leotards were always an expected fashion item. Nowadays, you can bring a modern vibe to this vintage trend by wearing a black bodysuit with a pair of jeans, an oversized denim jacket and make sure you accessorize your outfit with a chain looking belt wrapped around your hips, just above the area where you would normally place your belt.

Tracksuits

Juicy Couture tracksuits were also a big trend in the early year of 2000, but their first breakthrough was in the 1980s. You would walk down the street and see your neighbour in a velour tracksuit with a pair of Reebok and socks on full display. In 2017, celebrities were also reviving this fashion trend, mostly wearing them as an airport attire or just while running errands.

Vinyl

Another trend that has been lately going around is the vinyl everything. However, it was a fashion statement since the ’80s, when the it girl, Cindy Crawford, made it an it look.
