“-Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.”
I don’t know where you live, how you take your coffee in the morning or which one is your favorite fashion blog, but you must be familiar with this infamous, juicy and ironically pleasing line of Meryl Streep from the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”.
When I first saw the movie I was, of course, drown to the stylish clothes the characters were wearing, but I was even more in love and completely mesmerized with Miranda Priestly. Her personality full of whit, sarcasm and ice cold moments of truths served on a I-do-not-care-about-your-stupid-opinions-either-way platter, were the cherry to my cake.
What makes us all love Miranda so much is that, under all that seemingly perfectly structured armor of strength and determination, there is a vulnerable spot that makes her human and relatable.
I’ve seen this movie so many times, that if they are going to do a re-make, they should contact me, as I know all the lines by now 😊.
Returning to our floral scenery, in terms of fashion patterns, we must agree with Miranda. Florals for spring are predictable, unoriginal and can be found at any corner store during the spring season.
But what do we do if we genuinely love florals? They are the quintessence of revival and feminine reminiscences. Spring florals are a reminder and a source of inspiration of how powerful nature really is. To overcome the adversities of winter and to come back even more beautiful and full of colors, sounds and scents, should be a sweet reminder for those who struggle with a tougher period.
Florals for spring can be groundbreaking
If time and again you only find basic flower patterns, consisting of just simple images of petals, blossomed flowers and so on, then you should run. They are boring, not enticing and they might actually wash you out if you do not choose the right colors to complement your skin tone.
Smell the scent of a warmer spring night. The blossomed trees have already come into your blood stream and created little crevasses from where the feeling of freedom outbursts like a steamy gazer. Imagine this atmosphere around you as you are wearing a black satin spaghetti straps backless dress paired with a long silk floral head scarf. Wear the scarf as a rather narrow band, with its parts hanging in a non symmetric way.
You can add a pair of leather metallic mules and an iconic microscopic Jacquemus bag.
Abstract flower patterns
If you agree with the fact that fashion is art, you will love this one.
Florals are one of the most popular sources of inspiration for a lot of art forms. If you are tired of seeing the same old floral pattern, then believe me when I tell you that you can turn your outfit into art.
My suggestion would be to look for abstract pattern that would emulate the colors of spring and floral pastels. If we are talking about a dress, then you can wear it with a pair of chunky block-heels and a hat with rounded borders.
You can even add a leather jacket for a pinch of roughness to your look. But only if you like mixing styles.
Groundbreaking florals from head to toe
If you are one of those people that have a strong sense of humour, but who is also into high-end fashion, then you might just want to stick around for this one.
We have already established that, even though we love normal floral patterns, there is nothing moving to them, of course, in terms of fashion. This means that we all have to regroup and rethink our strategy.
But what if you would wear them from head to toe. As if you were diving into an abyss of flowers. And you swam so deep into this floral sea, that when you came up to the surface, you had them imprinted on your skin and nails. Of course, this is fantasy, but you got the idea.
From floral embellished (*Celia Kritharioti inspired*) tights, to a bodycon skirt and shirt, even a floral trench coat, now this would be a look that will turn heads. Of course, you will need the right attitude for this, as you do not want to turn yourself into a clown. The fine line between high-end fashion and circus can be easily disrupted.
Of course, we are living in the real life and not on a catwalk straight from Paris. So, we might feel like we do not care about following some weird fashion ‘norms’ or ideas. I agree with this and it is normal to feel this way. However, always remember that what really matters is to wear something that will complement your figure, as every body type can be beautifully dressed.
